Livejournal and I have had a fraught relationship this year. Most things have remained hidden, which is possibly for the best.

2009 has been a pretty weird year for me, a year of firsts, and adventures, and because it's 1am and I'm sat here alone in my flat in London, what better opportunity to review how it came about. This is basically 2009 by me.

The year began pretty badly with the break up of my relationship. This impacted on me for about 9 months, which is a bit pathetic really. So 2009 is the first full year I've spent single since 2004, which is weird, but kind of cool, because about 3 months in I realised I could do whatever the hell I wanted.

I had recently started a new job working at North East Lincs council, and this was meant to be a good job to get me settled in Grimsby. However the jump from Channel 4 to this was pretty hard to take. The people there were great, but the work was stagnant. However the money was good, and the work easy, if not boring.

So I plugged away at the job until September, when I quit it and moved to Sheffield. There was no particular reason for this move other than I wanted to go back and spend some time with my friends there. I should point out that in the mean time, I had one of the most amazing summers ever, with 2 trips to Barcelona and a trip to Paris thrown in. Due to the money I was earning at the council, i was really able to sort myself out, I rejuvenated my wardrobe and started dressing and socialising much better than I ever have in the past. As a result I met loads of new people and made loads of cool new friends. Funny to think now that I didn't really know half the people in Grimsby who are now my some of my best friends before the start of 2009.

So we did loads of awesome stuff. In March, I flew to Paris by myself, and went 'caving' in the catacombs for 3 days. There's over 200 miles of tunnels down there, and I've got to say it's one of the best things I've ever done in my life. This trip was kind of the turning point. I started doing things for myself, and the day I got back we flew to Barcelona were we spent 5 days in a hostel and met loads of cool people who we / I'm still in touch with. The day we got back from Barcelona i went to London to do some work with Channel 4 and the Guardian. Over the summer I started DJ'ing in a local nightclub, which was amazing, this is really how I got to know so many people, and I re-ignited a love for all things 80's. Of course I was also visiting Sheffield regularly, and finally moved there in September. That was really cool, and I spent 2 weeks just going out on the town with my best mate. By November my money was beginning to run out, but in the mean time I'd done my first stand up gigs.

Then I got offered a job in London working back in TV. I honestly didn't think I'd get back into the TV stuff, so this was a really rare opportunity. I was really settled in Sheffield though, but it just didn't make sense to stay there with this coming along. All my friends in Sheffield are very much sorted now though, and I can be very much sorted here in London when I start throwing myself into it.

It would be interesting to compare 2008 with 2009 and see which is better, really 2008 is marked by 2 events, the Channel 4 job and the divorce. 2009 has been epic in terms of things I've done...

First time travelling alone
First holiday abroad with friends (and then a second)
First one night stand
First time on drugs
First Stand Up Comedy Performance.
First time DJ'ing.
Second time I moved to Sheffield.
Second time I moved to London.
3 different jobs.
hundreds of new friends.

There's probably loads more. All I know is that although the year has had it's ups and downs, it's still probably been one of the best and most exciting ever. I've done so much stuff I wouldn't have ever done before, and I hope that I can continue this into next year.

The move to London will probably be the defining thing of 2010.. Alot depends on how much I throw myself into it, because at the moment I have 3 lifes split across 3 cities. I need to chose one, and that one should be London, but here, there's no kick start. I need to go out and make the most of this.
